Due to aggressive growth plans Polestar is currently looking to recruit a Sustainability Engineer – Body Structures

Let us describe the challenge we offer

Polestar is committed to sustainability. The sustainability engineer will be an integral part of the Body Structures Advanced Engineering team with a large focus on Polestar 0 project. Primary functions of the role is to support sustainability improvements for the future of Body Structures offering a unique opportunity to influence the future of the automotive industry.

What you’ll do:

  • Challenging of ‘the norm’ and not accepting of what has been done before.
  • Forward thinking and constantly up to date with sustainability and adjacent industry trends and applications.
  • An understanding of the challenges associated with the automotive and industrial sectors.
  • Self-motivated with excellent collaboration skills.
  • You have a proven ability to work to deadlines and prioritise your own workload.
  • You can work proactively with minimal support using a logical approach.
  • You have a proven ability to adapt to dynamic work streams and adapt to developing project targets.
  • An understanding of Environmental and legislative regulations.
  • Contribute to the learning and development of Sustainability knowledge within Polestar and utilize existing forums and networks to drive information sharing
  • Initiate and/or take part in research for Advanced Engineering projects relating to targets
  • Align work to business goals and contribute to Polestar’s ambition for climate neutrality by 2040.
  • Translate business and vehicle targets into tangible results. This includes removing embedded emissions, traceability, circularity, and material usage.
  • Work in harmony with the central Sustainability Team to deliver targets and deliverables for future vehicles
  • Educate the Body Structures Team and the wider business on sustainability status and potential improvements
  • Support sustainability related target setting for current and future product
  • Ensure material traceability is maintained on current body structure materials and products
  • Support guidelines and standards.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge in other Automotive Engineering fields to broaden expertise.
  • Support LCA exercises to understand product and material circularity
  • Support Environmental and legislative regulations

Who you are

  • Passionate about Sustainability, the environment and Polestar as a brand
  • Educated to a degree level within a related field
  • Strong experience and understanding of embedded Carbon (Life Cycle Analysis)
  • Experience of working within a large, complex organization
  • Experience of delivering specific projects/outcomes
  • Strong collaborative skills to work within cross-functional teams
  • Strong presentation and communication skills to articulate and influence positive change
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent interpersonal & organisational skills, with good attention to detail
  • Able to work in start-up environment.

In addition to the above, it would be advantageous to display:

  • Experience within the automotive industry or with some experience with/relationship to engineering
  • Understanding and experience of an automotive product delivery system
  • Sustainability/Environmental qualification or membership
  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience building and presenting business cases
