Due to aggressive growth plans Polestar is currently looking to recruit a Thermal and Climate Development Engineer.

Let us describe the challenge we offer

As a Thermal and Climate Engineer within the Vehicle Development team, you will be responsible for the development of Polestar Thermal and Climate Systems to meet vehicle attribute targets.


What you’ll do

  • Working closely with relevant function groups and part owners to provide technical expertise and ensure delivery of robust Thermal and Climate systems.
  • Development of the Thermal and Climate Design Verification Process (DVP), and definition of relevant test procedures to ensure delivery of the vehicle attribute targets.
  • Attribute target setting driven by product character requirements and competitor benchmarking.
  • Supporting the virtual and physical validation of the vehicle Thermal and Climate systems and its components.
  • Engaging with the Polestar Range and Efficiency team to develop a robust thermal strategy that balances thermal performance and efficiency for range.
  • Supporting the development of effective thermal management and climate control calibrations.
  • Writing test reports and presenting vehicle test and development results at relevant forums up to director level.
  • Supporting the preparation of vehicles and rigs for test and development activities.
  • Planning and supporting necessary test and development activities, including UK and overseas test trips for hot and cold environment testing and sign-off
  • Supporting Thermal and Climate Advanced Engineering projects as required.


Who you are

Essential:

  • You will have at least 1 year of Thermal and/or HVAC development experience in the automotive industry.  
  • Good technical background with a solid understanding of thermodynamics principles.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of electric vehicle thermal and climate systems, including refrigerant and water/glycol heat transfer systems.
  • A proven track record in delivering attribute targets for electric vehicles.
  • Familiarity with OEM product development systems, attribute target setting and the Design Verification Process (DVP).
  • Good project management skills with the ability to manage and lead a project independently
  • Good initiative, with the ability to manage your own time and priorities.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and aural), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams within the organisation.
  • Full driving licence is essential
  • No visa or other restrictions for working in the UK or travelling in the European Union
  • Willingness to travel as required is essential.
  • The ability to work at extreme temperatures of -40°C to +50°C

Desirable:

  • Experience of climatic wind tunnel and environmental chamber testing at UK and/or international facilities.
  • Experience of installation and configuration of automotive data acquisition equipment; ideally ETAS and/or IPEtronik.
  • Experience of data acquisition and/or calibration using ETAS INCA.
  • Good understanding of automotive CAN, LIN and Ethernet communication networks.
