What you'll do

You will be responsible for supporting vehicle development to meet challenging Thermal Systems and Climate attribute targets within the Vehicle Development team.

The Role

  • Work within the thermal and climate attributes, supporting vehicle development from concept to production
  • Work closely with relevant function groups and part owners to deliver physical validation of the vehicle Thermal and Climate systems and its components.
  • Support the development of the Climate and Thermal Systems Design Verification Process (DVP), and definition of relevant test procedures to ensure delivery of the vehicle attribute targets.
  • Prepare vehicles and rigs for test and development activities, including configuration of instrumentation and data acquisition equipment
  • Coordinate and conduct necessary test and development activities, including: Rig-based Thermal and Climate performance testing Vehicle-based Thermal and Climate performance testing utilising climatic facilities in the UK UK and overseas test trips for hot and cold environment testing and sign-off
  • Engage with the wider energy attributes team to develop a robust thermal strategy that balances thermal performance and efficiency for range.
  • Support the development of effective thermal management and climate control calibrations.
  • Write test reports and present vehicle test and development results at relevant forums up to director level.
  • Supporting Thermal and Climate Advanced Engineering projects as required.


Who you are

  • You will have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant area with Thermal and/or Climate development experience ideally in the electric vehicle industry.  
  • Good technical background in thermal fundamentals and principles with experience in delivering thermal and climate attributes for electric vehicles
  • Strong working knowledge of electric vehicle thermal systems. Candidates with experience of plug-in hybrid thermal system and/or HVAC development will also be considered.
  • Experience of climatic wind tunnel and environmental chamber testing at UK and/or international facilities
  • Ability to work at extreme temperatures of -40°C to +50°C
  • Experience of planning and organising overseas test trips including cold and hot environment trials
  • Desirable: experience of installation and configuration of automotive data acquisition equipment (ideally ETAS and/or IPEtronik).
  • Desirable: experience of data acquisition and/or calibration using ETAS INCA
  • Desirable: good understanding of automotive CAN, LIN and Ethernet communication networks
  • Familiar with OEM product development systems, attribute target setting, and benchmarking
  • Good project management skills with the ability to manage and lead a project independently with minimal supervision from their manager
  • Good initiative, with the ability to manage own time and priorities.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and aural), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams within the organisation.
  • Full driving licence is essential
  • No visa or other restrictions for working in the UK or travelling in the European Union
  • Willingness to travel as required is essential.
