Senior System Engineer - Exterior Lighting

About Polestar Core – Body & Comfort Electronics

Polestar core is all about delivering safe, scalable, and robust systems to enable services and technologies for an intelligent vehicle. The purpose of the Exterior Lighting role in the Body & Comfort Electronics team is to develop and/or integrate body electronics systems and components on multiple new vehicle programmes.


About The Role

As Senior Exterior Lighting Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of Polestar Lighting Systems, leading the development at all levels from requirements definition, system design, software requirements, hardware requirements, validation activities through to feature sign-off. You will play a key role in the strategic decisions for Lighting and help drive the next generation of Lighting features and systems.

 

What you'll do

  • Be responsible for the end-to-end Exterior Lighting System development and delivery through to production
  • Lead technical discussions with suppliers, internal cross-functional teams, and partner OEMs to develop competitive solutions for our systems and software products
  • Support and manage our partner OEM and Tier 1 suppliers for donor technology, new/modified designs, system calibration, validation, and certification
  • Support the exterior lighting component team in the delivery of electrical and electrical systems requirements
  • Be responsible for coordinating the software development with our partner OEMs to ensure our Polestar unique DNA is included in the core software development
  • Be responsible for the Electronics Control solutions to support the Polestar Lighting features
  • Support legal requirements and certification activities for exterior lighting systems
  • Cross-functional leadership and overall system integrator role between the Software & Electronics and Exteriors Function Groups
  • Lead and co-ordinate system reviews, calibration, and verification & validation activities throughout the development lifecycle
  • Support prototype builds, validation (component, system & vehicle) and launch
  • Issue management support, from problem identification through to introduction of final countermeasure using company issue management system
  • Provision of information, support, and training to Manufacturing and Service departments
  • Preparation of reports and feedback to the technical and project management teams


Mandatory Skills

  • Demonstrable experience (5+ years) of Exterior lighting electronics at a systems level including LED Adaptive Matrix/Pixel headlamp systems
  • Awareness of latest automotive lighting technology and roadmap
  • Should have experience of the full product lifecycle, from concept through to vehicle launch
  • Experience with automotive product development process(es).
  • Practical experience of vehicle electrical architectures based upon Ethernet, CAN, LIN and Flexray
  • Experience of Software requirements, test, and validation.
  • Excellent communication and co-ordination skills - at ease coordinating a team of engineers and suppliers
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, and methodical individual who is self-motivated, able to work well under own initiative and remain focused under pressure
  • Ability to prioritise workload & manage external inputs/requests without supervision
  • Willing to take responsibility and make decisions based on best judgement where data is not available
  • Genuine interest in making efficient, sustainable products
  • Electrical, Electronic Systems, Electro-mechanical, Automotive, or similar honours engineering degree. Other recognized engineering qualifications combined with relevant significant experience may be considered
  • No visa or other restrictions for working in the UK or travelling in the European Union
  • Full driving licence preferred


Desirable Skills

  • Experience of delivering electrical systems in accordance with EMC requirements
  • Experience of Atlassian toolsets (JIRA, Confluence etc.)
  • Understanding of Functional Safety and safety analysis techniques (HARA, FMEA, FTA, etc)
  • Understanding of Cyber Security requirements and principles
  • Practical experience of diagnostic software tools and Measurement and Calibration tools
  • Practical experience with systems engineering practices
  • Practical experience working in an Agile / Scrum framework to develop and deliver products.
