Due to aggressive growth plans Polestar is currently looking to recruit a Senior Project Engineer – Exterior Closures.

Key Objectives & Responsibilities: 

The Exterior Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for playing a key role in the development of Exterior BIW system on current and future vehicle programs.

These will include:

  • Project management of exterior BIW system to meet required project milestones from concept engineering to launch.
  • Ensuring program targets are met for responsible systems for cost, mass, quality, timing, and other attributes.
  • Collaboration with design studio to drive feasible and cost-effective solutions whilst also pushing the boundaries on styling and forming process.
  • Ownership and development of the technical specifications, DFMEAs, DVPs, Engineering statement of works and other key technical documents as part of the new vehicle development process. 
  • Design and construct CAD models in line with best practice tooling and manufacturing methods.
  • Engage and lead in cross functional reviews. 
  • Supplier management. 
  • Work with the manufacturing stamping supplier and support approval of forming simulation setup and output.
  • Review and advise on documentation of internal or external communication, processing data, and other pertinent product information.
  • Work with supplier to review and advise on their approval of forming simulation setup, tool design, tooling try out and final Homeline buy off.

Experience Requirements 

  • At least 5+ experience designing BIW systems from studio surface feasibility to production ready.
  • Understanding and experience in New Product Development life cycle.
  • Design and construct CAD models in line with best practice tooling and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with aluminium closure architecture, construction and joining methods.
  • Forming feasibility - interpret and integrate forming simulation updates based on analysis.
  • Working knowledge of current manufacturing techniques in metal forming.
  • Knowledge of material properties, mechanics of materials and how these materials react when subjected to varying stamping conditions.
  • Ability to remain current with state-of-the-art technologies and practices related to the metal stamping process as well as develop innovative solutions when necessary.
  • Experience in forming at elevated temperatures a plus.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the wider exteriors team when required. 
  • Experience in CAD (Catia V5) and Teamcenter.
  • Cross functional understanding and integration-Exterior mouldings, Structure, Sealing, Flaps, electrical modules, interior trim and exterior hardware.
  • Work with supplier to review and advise on their approval of forming simulation setup, tool design, tooling try out and final Homeline buy off.
  • At least 5+year experience in delivery of BIW A-class tooling with Chinese and global toolmakers-Must have the ability to travel internationally.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, time management, and analytic skills

 

Academic Requirements

  • Degree qualified or equivalent preferred.
