Let us describe the challenge we offer

Polestar is blazing a new trail, dedicating ourselves to the development and refinement of electric vehicle performance. Due to unprecedented growth, we are now looking for a Principal Engineer within the Polestar Core Function Group. We work hard to create a unique experience for the customer, owner and driver which requires us to push the limits of technology and innovation. If you are an innovative, open-minded person who believes that electrification is the future of the automotive industry, we would like to hear from you.

About Polestar Core

Our mission is to deliver a class leading E/E platform, with an extensive feature set, offering Pure, Progressive, Performance, to provide a Customer Experience that exceeds their expectations. Polestar Core is all about delivering a safe, scalable, and robust Computing Platform to enable services and technologies for the next generation intelligent vehicles. We are the heart and the brain of the vehicle that interface to core system components to deliver complex vehicle functions.

What you’ll do

You will manage the Core System team and contribute to the introduction of the new Core System Software architecture for current and future computing platforms. As a principal engineer you will oversee a rapidly growing team tasked to maintain and adapt the Software Architecture for the Core system and associated computing platform which is capable of hosting multiple applications. You will use your experience and skills to create a team to deal with all the core computing platform needs. You would be expected to:

  • Be the technical lead for Software, System and Software integration activities related to the core computing platform.
  • Perform team management and monitoring tasks such as performance management, employee learning and development while providing constant direction.
  • Leading key System Engineering activities for the specification, analysis and development of embedded concepts at hardware, software or networking level, taking into account the requirements of the functions or systems (real-time, security, safety, diagnostics, CPU, memory etc) as well as the technologies used (Bus Systems, Operating Systems, Protocols, Sensor and Actuator Concepts, etc.)
  • Assume ownership of system architecture concepts and design (including function allocation in hardware, software and mechatronics modules).
  • Maintain a platform architecture with the scope to increase reusability among current and future products.
  • Own the dependencies with participating nodes and associated core system components (such as gateways, remote I/O devices)
  • Provide continuous enhancement of the core system architecture in cooperation with the project teams and partner OEM to optimise the application hosting environment.
  • Manage parallel projects within the Core System to deliver according to KPIs (performance, optimization, measurement, monitoring of the computing platform).

Who you are

You have a strong wish to create the future of electric vehicles – it’s probably fair to call you an EV nerd. You are enthusiastic, motivated, well-organized, and driven. You are passionate and capable of leading a growing team working on cutting edge automotive computing platforms. You are a strong believer in using modelling tools to define architectures. You are an expert in resource constrained environments running multiple applications in parallel. You are a self-driven individual that offers solutions based on your experience and team’s support.

To be successful in this role, we believe you have:

  • Degree qualified in the field of computer science, mechatronics, electrical/electronic engineering or comparable. Other recognized engineering qualifications combined with relevant significant experience may be considered
  • 8+ years of experience with system architecture design in automotive industry: defining logical and functional architecture, HW and SW Interfaces.
  • Proven record of leading and managing teams within a System Design and SW development capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of embedded software architecture, in-house software development, AUTOSAR as well as networking technologies and Ethernet protocol.
  • Experience with hypervisors and high-performance computing platforms used in automotive environment as well as experience in QNX, Peripheral device interfaces, Diagnostics, CDD and generic HALs.
  • Good working knowledge of service-oriented analysis and design, ideally using UML, SysML
  • Experienced in analysing and eliciting requirements ideally using modelling tools.
  • Strong background in embedded/distributed systems with clear understanding of hardware/software partitioning, multithreading/concurrency concepts and Multi-Resource Management in Embedded Real-Time Systems.
  • Experienced with automotive middleware (e.g. SOME/IP) or alternative service oriented architectures.
  • Experienced with Ethernet and CAN network communication and associated protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Experienced in the estimation, measurement and/or optimisation process of embedded systems (embedded software, hardware, operating system etc.)

Desired experience, but not a must:

  • Good knowledge on software architecture, design, and quality according to the ASPICE process model
  • Proven track record of bringing automotive computing platform architectures into production.
  • Experience in automotive embedded platform and application software development on Linux/QNX
  • Functional safety knowledge (ISO 26262).

Furthermore, you’re not afraid to try new approaches and unconventional methods, and you work well both individually and within diverse teams. You have a holistic view, including vision, business, and customers.

At Polestar, you will be part of a cross-functional and international team, with English as a natural language for written and spoken communication. Personal fit will be of great importance in this recruitment, as we are actively working to build a team with diverse experience, gender, and background.
